Hind Zinc to set up 50-bln-rupee smelter unit in Gujarat, say sources

AHMEDABAD – Hindustan Zinc Ltd will invest 50 bln rupees to set up a 350 kilo tn per annum greenfield zinc smelter plant in south Gujarat, sources said.

"The capacity is slightly higher than the earlier planned capacity of 300 kilo tn per annum," the sources said. The new facility will also produce other minor metals besides zinc.


Other than the smelting unit, the company will also set up a fumer plant to extract waste metals, a 2×90-MW captive power plant, and a 35-MW waste heat recovery boiler plant at the industrial estate of Gujarat Industrial Development Corp in Doswada, Tapi district.


The project, located 110 km off Hazira port, is likely to be spread across 415 acres and employ 5,000 people. It is expected to begin operations from 2022, the sources said.


At 1245 IST, shares of Hindustan Zinc were 0.6% higher at 293.95 rupees on the National Stock Exchange.  End
