MUMBAI - Paddy output in Andhra Pradesh in the 2020-21 (Jul-Jun) season is seen falling nearly 4% to 13.1 mln tn due to a decline in acreage and productivity, according to the farm department's second advance estimate.
Maize production in the state is seen falling 8% to 1.96 mln tn.
The output of cotton is projected at 1.9 mln bales (1 bale = 170 kg), down 22% from the year ago due to lower productivity. Cotton yield in the current season is seen at 547 kg/ha, against 648 kg/ha a year ago.
The state is among the major producers of paddy, maize and cotton.
Production of most crops in the state is expected to decline as heavy rain in October is likely to have hit yields of standing crops. Andhra Pradesh received 60% above-normal rainfall at 124.0 mm during Oct 1-14.
The state has pegged total food grain output at 16.4 mln tn, compared with 17.5 mln tn a year ago. Oilseed output is pegged at 2.6 mln tn, compared with 3.2 mln tn a year ago.
Chilli production in the state, the largest producer of the spice, is seen at 735,000 tn, compared with 805,000 tn a year ago, according to the data.
