NEW DELHI - Prices of maize rose for the third straight day in the key wholesale markets of Davanagere, Karnataka, as heavy showers have damaged fresh crops, while prices of wheat and basmati 1121 rice were stable today, traders said.
* Prices of maize rose for the third straight day today in Davanagere, Karnataka, as crops were damaged by untimely rains, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* "Excessive and untimely rains have damaged 4-5% of maize and prices have moved up in the Davanagere market," Kumar said.
* Today, arrivals were pegged steady at 1,200 bags (1 bag = 65 kg).
* Prices of maize in Purnea, Bihar, were unchanged today. Arrivals were pegged at 18,750 bags, compared with 10,500 bags the previous trading day, local dealer Kanhaiya Rastogi said.
* In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of mill-quality WHEAT were flat today. Arrivals were pegged flat at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
* Similarly, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the price of mill-quality wheat was steady. Arrivals were pegged steady at 5,000 bags, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were stable, traders said.
