NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat rose today in Kota, Rajasthan, due to improved demand from local buyers, while those of maize edged lower in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, due to feeble demand from millers, said market participants.

* Prices of mill quality WHEAT rose in Kota due to good demand from flour millers and stockists, said local trader Aniket Mehta.

* Arrivals were pegged at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), unchanged from the previous trading day.

* "Arrivals are expected to remain low for the next few weeks as farmers are busy sowing other crops such as paddy and soybean, and also because of monsoon," said a trader.

* On the other hand, prices of mill quality wheat were steady today in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Arrivals were pegged steady at 5,000 bags, said a local trader N.K. Agarwal.

* Today, prices of MAIZE fell for the second straight day in Davanagere due to decreased demand from millers, a local trader Shiva Kumar said.

* Arrivals were steady at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg).

* Prices of maize in key market of Purnea, Bihar, were steady today despite a fall in supply, a local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi said.

* Arrivals in Purnea were pegged at 22,250 bags, down 7,500 bags from Wednesday, due to unfavourable weather conditions in the region.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
