NEW DELHI – Prices of maize in Purnea, a major market in Bihar, fell sharply today due to weak demand for the poor quality crop. Prices of wheat were flat across the country, traders said.

* Prices of MAIZE slumped in Purnea today due to weak demand from bulk buyers as the crop has been damaged due to cyclonic storm Asani, local dealer Kanhaiya Rastogi said.

* Arrivals were pegged at 150,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), unchanged from Tuesday.

* Thousands of maize farmers suffered heavy losses in Bihar after their crops were damaged by thunderstorms and rain over the last few days.

* Prices of maize in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, were flat due to demand-supply parity, local trader Shiva Kumar said.

* In Davanagere, arrivals were pegged at 1,000 bags.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were flat today due to steady demand and arrivals, said local trader N.K. Agarwal. In Indore, arrivals were pegged at 12,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg).

* In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of wheat were steady. Arrivals were pegged at 33,000 bags, up 3,000 bags from Tuesday, said local trader Chander Khandelwal.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
