NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat rose today in the key wholesale markets of Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Kota in Rajasthan due to robust demand, while those of maize fell in Davanagere in Karnataka due to sluggish demand, traders said.

* Prices of mill quality WHEAT rose in Indore due to a rise in demand amid a decline in arrivals, N.K. Agarwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were pegged at 1,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 500 bags from Monday.

* Prices are expected to go up by 50 rupees in the following week, Agarwal said.

* Similarly, prices of mill quality wheat rose in Kota because of firm demand for the staple grain despite an increase in arrivals, Aniket Mehta, a local dealer said.

* Arrivals were estimated at 6,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous trading day.

* Prices may rise further to 3,000 rupees per 100 kg in the coming days as demand is firm, Mehta said.

* On the other hand, MAIZE prices fell in Davanagere on the back of low demand for the grain despite a decline in its supply, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 1,500 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), down 500 bags from Monday.

* Prices of maize in the major markets of Purnea in Bihar were unchanged from the previous trading day, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local dealer.

* Arrivals were also pegged steady at 6,000 bags in the market. Prices are expected to remain stable this week, Rastogi said.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were flat today.
