NEW DELHI – Prices of maize fell in the key markets of Davanagere in Karnataka because of high moisture content in the new crop, while prices of basmati 1121 rice and wheat were flat today, traders said.

* Prices of MAIZE were down in Davanagere due to high moisture content in the fresh crop that led to fall in demand, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.

* The new crop's moisture content is estimated at 30-33%, much higher than the desirable limit of 14%, traders said.

* Arrivals were pegged at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), compared with 300 bags on Thursday.

* However, prices of maize in Purnea in Bihar were unchanged today. Arrivals were pegged at 7,500 bags, compared with 3,000 bags on Thursday, local dealer Kanhaiya Rastogi said.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Kota, Rajasthan, were stable today. Arrivals were pegged steady at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.

* Similarly, in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, the price of mill-quality wheat was unchanged. Arrivals were pegged flat 4,000 bags, local trader N. K. Agarwal said.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were steady, traders said.
