MUMBAI – Prices of wheat in Madhya Pradesh's Indore and Rajastha's Kota markets rose due to improved demand. Maize markets across the key trading centres were shut today, said market participants.

WHEAT prices in Indore rose due to lower arrivals owing to the Navratri festival and firm demand from bulk buyers, said Tarun Sharma, a local trader.

* Arrivals in Indore were pegged at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), compared with 2,000 bags on Wednesday. Supply of wheat also declined as farmers were offloading the new crop of soybean more due to the peak arrivals season, said Sharma.

* Prices also gained in Rajasthan's Kota market. Arrivals of wheat were pegged at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), compared with 7,000 bags on Wednesday.

MAIZE markets in Davanagere, Purnea and Nizamabad are shut due to the Navratri festival and trade will resume from Monday, said traders.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
