NEW DELHI - Ex-mill prices of sugar were up across key wholesale markets in north India today because of bargain buying after prices declined over the past few days.

* "In Uttar Pradesh, prices are likely to hold in a range of 32.30-32.60 rupees a kg, and in Maharashtra, in a range of 30.20-30.70 rupees a kg," a Noida-based firm said in a note.

Following are highlights of trade in the domestic market today:

(Changes in price per 100 kg)

–-Up 10 rupees at 3,295 rupees in Muzaffarnagar

--Up 15 rupees at 3,275 rupees in Delhi

--Flat at 3,150 rupees in Kolhapur
--Flat at 3,340 rupees in Mumbai

* On the Intercontinental Exchange, the most active May contract of sugar rose 0.6% to 17.21 cents per pound. Prices rose as production of the sweetener declined in Brazil's centre-south region.

* Rabobank expects the July and October contracts to trade at 15.5-18.5 cents, largely due to soaring ethanol prices in Brazil, which tends to tempt mills to divert more cane to ethanol production.  End

US$1 = 73.29 rupees
