MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India today modified the eligibility criteria under the Kisan Credit Card scheme for farmers engaged in fishing and aquaculture.
In a circular issued today, the central bank noted that licensing and authorisation-related requirements pertaining to fishing and aquaculture in inland water bodies vary across states.
Therefore, beneficiaries must own or lease any fisheries related assets and possess necessary authorisation and certification in respective states for fish farming and fishing-related activities, and for any other state-specific fisheries and allied activities, RBI said.
Under the earlier norms, the authorisation and certification required for fishing-related activities was common across all the states.
Launched in 1998, the Kisan Credit Card scheme provides farmers with timely access to credit for various agriculture-related activities.
In the Union Budget for 2018-19 (Apr-Mar), the government had decided to extend the facilities of Kisan Credit Card to animal husbandry farmers and fisheries.
All other terms and conditions of the scheme remain unchanged, the central bank said. End
