EIA says US natural gas stocks rise 71 bcf in the week ended Sept 5

MUMBAI – US natural gas inventory rose 71 billion cubic feet in the week ended Sept. 5, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. The inventory was 6% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.

The agency pegged total gas in underground storage at 3.34 trillion cubic feet as of Sept. 5, down 1.1% from 3.38 trillion cubic feet a year ago. The stocks were 188 billion cubic feet higher than the five-year average of 3.16 trillion cubic feet, the report said.

Total working gas remained within the five-year historical range. The east, midwest, mountain, and south central salt and non-salt regions saw a rise in the inventory while the Pacific region saw a fall in stocks, according to the report. At 1244 IST, the most-active October contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was 0.9% lower from the previous close at $2.908 per million British thermal units. End
