US crude oil stocks, excluding strategic petroleum reserves, surged by 1.8 mln barrels to 458.8 mln bbl in the week ended Friday, but were 3?low the five-year average for this time of the year, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report released on Wednesday. In a poll by Dow Jones, analysts had expected a 2.0 mln bbl drawdown last week.
