MUMBAI – Petroleum product consumption in India rose 2.1% in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), the lowest growth in four years, according to provisional data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Total consumption of petroleum products rose to 239.17 million tonnes in FY25. Domestic consumption had grown 5% in FY24.

Consumption of petrol in FY25 rose 7.5% to 40 million tonnes and liquefied petroleum gas grew 5.6% to 31.3 million tonnes. The growth in consumption of LPG in FY25 was the highest in the last five years, according to the data. Petrol accounted for nearly 17% of the total petroleum product consumption in the country.

Diesel consumption rose 2% to 91.4 million tonnes in FY25, the lowest growth in four years, the data showed. Diesel accounted for over 38% of overall petroleum product consumption in India. Diesel consumption had grown 4.3% in FY24.

The consumption of aviation turbine fuel in FY25 rose 9% to around 9 million tonnes. The growth in jet fuel consumption was also the lowest in the last four years. In FY24, growth in jet fuel consumption was nearly 12%. End
