Tata Steel has said that it plans to continue the restructuring programme at its UK operations, especially in Port Talbot, Wales, where the blast furnaces and other heavy end assets will be closed, and replaced with electric arc furnaces. Tata Steel's statement, made in an exchange filing, came a few hours after the UK Labour Party called for post-election talks between the company and the UK government on the 1.25-bln-pound-sterling restructuring deal, which may lead to around 2,800 layoffs.
