NEW DELHI – India net added 848,801 wireless telecom subscribers in March, much lower than the 3.93 mln subscribers added in the previous month, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India today. Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel Ltd both increased their subscribers in March, while Vodafone Idea Ltd continued to lose users.
Reliance Jio Infocomm net added 2.14 mln users in March, lower than the 3.60 mln subscribers added in the previous month. Bharti Airtel net added 1.75 mln subscribers in March compared to 1.53 mln users it got in February. Vodafone Idea net lost 684,530 users in March compared to 1.02 mln users lost in February.
Government-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd net lost 2.36 mln users in March, much higher than the 171,588 users lost in the previous month, data showed.
Reliance Jio, India's largest wireless network operator, held a 40.3% share in the wireless telecom market in terms of subscribers in March. Bharti Airtel had the second-biggest market share at 33.1%, followed by Vodafone Idea at 18.86%. The market share of both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel increased in March from the previous month, while Vodafone Idea lost ground to its peers. Private players controlled 92% of the market in March, while the rest was serviced by public sector players such as BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.

ACTIVE SUBSCRIBERS
Out of the 1.17 bln wireless subscribers in India, around 1.06 bln, or 90.8%, were active subscribers, going by the peak visitor location register, which is used to measure active subscribers, including those roaming, on a mobile operator's network, according to the TRAI data.
Bharti Airtel topped the visitor location register data for March at 99.91%, followed by Reliance Jio at 91.62%. They were followed by Vodafone Idea at 87.92%.

BROADBAND USERS
India's broadband subscriber base rose 0.8% month-on-month to 924.07 mln at the end of March. Reliance Jio had 52.05% of all broadband subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel at 29.57%, and Vodafone Idea at 13.82%. In the case of wireless connections, Reliance Jio had 469.73 mln subscribers as on Mar 31, Bharti Airtel had 265.50 mln subscribers, and Vodafone Idea had 127.69 mln subscribers. End
