PM Modi's 5-nation visit starts next week, to attend BRICS Summit in Brazil

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Brazil from Jul. 5-8 to attend the BRICS Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs said Friday. This is part of an eight-day international trip during which Modi will visit five countries across Africa and South America.

A formal grouping BRICS, began with Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as members. In 2023, the grouping expanded to include six other nations Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

"During the Summit, Prime Minister will exchange views on key global issues including reform of global governance, peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, economic and financial matters," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a release. Modi will also travel to Brasilia after the Summit where he will hold bilateral discussions with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the broadening strategic partnership in trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, and health.

Modi will begin his eight-day international trip with his first-ever visit to Ghana on Wednesday and Thursday. Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ghana after three decades. He will meet President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama to discuss enhancing bilateral ties through economic, energy, and defence collaboration.

Modi will then visit Trinidad and Tobago on Jul. 3-4. This will be the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Trinidad and Tobago since 1999.

He will also visit Argentina from Jul. 4-5. In Argentina, Modi will meet President Javier Milei to discuss enhancing partnership in areas such as defence, oil and gas, agriculture, mining, renewable energy, trade and investment, the release said.

The Indian Prime Minister will close his trip with a visit to Namibia on Jul. 9. Modi will hold bilateral talks with Namibia's President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and is expected to deliver an address at Parliament of Namibia. End
