MUMBAI – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, the All Indian Congress Committee said in a release today. Gandhi also contested from his existing constituency of Wayanad in Kerala, where polling was held in the second phase of the General Elections.
Polling in Rae Bareli is scheduled for May 20, the fifth phase of the elections. In Rae Bareli, Dinesh Pratap Singh will contest from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi had won from the Rae Bareli constituency four consecutive times.
Rahul Gandhi is the sitting Lok Sabha member from Wayanad. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from both Wayanad and Amethi, but lost to the BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi. This time, the Congress' Kishori Lal Sharma will contest elections in Amethi, the release said.
Polling for the General Elections began on Apr 19, and counting of votes will be held on Jun 4. End
