NEW DELHI – In a major outreach ahead of the state assembly elections due Oct-Nov, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Tuesday announced 35% reservation for women in state government jobs. The benefit will be awarded to women who are permanent residents of the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state Cabinet Tuesday. The Cabinet approved 43 proposals in all, including the one on reservation for women. The chief minister also announced that the state government will set up a Bihar Youth Commission to provide more job opportunities to the youth of the state. He said the commission will consist of one chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, and seven members, with a maximum age limit of 45 years. The objective is to make the state's youth self-reliant, skilled, and employment-oriented so their future is secured, Kumar said.

"The Bihar Youth Commission will play a significant role in advising the government on all matters related to improving and uplifting the condition of youth in society," the chief minister said in a post on social media platform X. "The commission will also coordinate with government departments to ensure better education and employment for the youth."

Kumar further said the commission will monitor that local youths are given priority in private-sector employment within the state, while also protecting the interests of youths studying and working outside the state.  End
