MUMBAI – Jane Street Group, LLC., has sought more time from the Securities and Exchange Board of India to respond to its interim order of Jul. 3, according to a statement by the group. The interim order, which accused Jane Street entities of manipulating the Indian equity market, had given the group 21 days to respond.

"Jane Street is committed to conduct that upholds the integrity of India's capital markets and contributes to their continued development," Jane Street Group said in its statement. "We are engaging constructively with SEBI and have sought an extension to respond to the interim order issued on July 3."

Earlier in July, SEBI had banned four entities of the Jane Street Group from participating in India's securities market over allegations of index manipulation. The regulator had directed the four entities to deposit INR 48.44 billion, which the entities complied with after a week of the interim order.

Jane Street Group is under scrutiny after it was found by SEBI to have been manipulating the cash market in India to make gains in the derivatives market. SEBI has indicated since passing its interim order that its probe into Jane Street's trading activity has only just begun. SEBI has said it plans to widen its probe and include more trading days and indices before annoucing its final order. End
