--IMD: See very heavy rain over parts of northwest India till Monday
--IMD: See heavy rain in parts of west India, coastal Karnataka next 7 days
MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said heavy rainfall is likely to prevail over parts of northwest India for the next 4–5 days as there is a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. The weather system is also likely to cause very heavy rainfall over parts of the northwest till Monday.
Owing to heavy rainfall over the region, the weather department issued an orange alert in Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Sunday. It has also issued an orange alert in Punjab for Saturday. The weather bureau also said there is low to moderate risk of flash floods over a few watersheds of Himachal Pradesh.
Very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Goa, the Ghats of central Maharashtra, and Gujarat region for the next four days, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is also likely over these regions and other parts of west India for the next seven days.
The above weather conditions over west India are mainly due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh. There is also another cyclonic circulation over north Konkan and its neighbourhood.
According to a post by the weather department on social media platform X, the department has issued a "multi-hazard warning" in the country for Saturday due to strong surface winds, thunderstorms, lightning, very heavy and heavy showers over most parts of India. According to the India Meteorological Department, a "multi-hazard warning" means a forecast that alerts about multiple potentially dangerous weather conditions or events such as cyclones, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, heatwaves, cold waves, and fog, all occurring at the same time or in sequence.
