NEW DELHI – Prices of maize rose today in the benchmark markets of the country as demand strengthened. Prices of wheat and Pusa 1121 basmati rice were steady across key spot markets, traders said.

* Prices of MAIZE rose in Davanagere, Karnataka, due to firm demand from the poultry sector, local trader Shiva Kumar said.

* Arrivals were steady at 1,000 bags, unchanged from Friday, Kumar added.

* In Purnea, a key spot market in Bihar, high demand for the good quality crops supported prices of MAIZE, local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi said.

* Most of the maize crops have been damaged due to rain and there has been a weak supply of good quality crop in the market, traders said.

* Arrivals were estimated at 18,750 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), up 3,125 bags from the previous day.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were steady in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, amid steady supply and largely unchanged demand from bulk buyers such as millers, local trader N.K. Agarwal said.

* Arrivals were pegged at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), unchanged from Friday.

* Prices of mill-quality wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, were flat today as demand from millers and bulk buyers was strong amid higher supply, a trader, Aniket Mehta said.

* Arrivals were pegged at 25,000 bags, up 10,000 bags from Friday.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were stable today because of steady demand from bulk buyers, traders said.
