MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat in the wholesale markets of Kota, Rajasthan, remained steady for the third consecutive day today. Maize prices in Davanagere, Karnataka, also remained steady for the third straight day, said traders.
WHEAT prices in Kota were at 2,450 rupees per 100 kg, the same as the previous day of trade, while arrivals were at 2,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from Wednesday, said Aniket Gupta, a local trader.
Prices of wheat in the markets of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, remained steady at 2,600-2,700 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 1,000 bags, down 500 bags from previous days, said Omprakash Nagar, a local trader.
Arrivals fell as stocks of wheat with farmers have been nearly exhausted. Fresh arrivals from the current season's harvest will start from Feb 15, when prices will likely fall, said the trader.
Maize prices in the wmarkets of Davanagere also remained steady today at 2,200-2,380 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 2,000 bags, the same as on the previous day, said Shiva Kumar, a local maize trader. Demand for maize in the markets of Davanagere has begun to ebb from the neighbouring states as new arrivals have started in states such as Tamil Nadu.

MUMBAI – Prices of wheat were flat today in Indore and Kota, market participants said. Maize prices in Purnea were also flat. Prices of maize in Davanagere were unavailable.
In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of mill-quality WHEAT were unchanged from Wednesday at 2,400-2,450 rupees per 100 kg, Aniket Mehta, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 7,000-8,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), Mehta said.
In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, too, wheat prices were unchanged from Wednesday at 2,520 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Lavish Shah said.
The markets in Kota and Indore were shut on Thursday for Eid-e-Milad.
MAIZE prices in Purnea were flat at 2,050-2,100 rupees per 100 kg from Thursday, local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), he said.
As of Friday, maize acreage in India was 8.5 mln ha, up 3.2% from 8.2 mln ha in the corresponding period last year.
