MUMBAI - Prices of wheat in Kota and Indore rose today due to a pick up in domestic demand. Maize prices in Telangana's Nizamabad and Karnataka's Davanagere remained steady due to lack of strong demand, said market participants.
* WHEAT prices in Kota, the benchmark market, rose on steady arrivals and firm demand from domestic stockists. Arrivals were pegged at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), said Aniket Mehta, a Kota-based trader.
* Prices also gained in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. Arrivals were steady at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg).
* Price of MAIZE in Davanagere, a key trading centre, remained steady as bulk buyers were reluctant to make huge purchases because of high moisture in the new crop. Today, around 10,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) arrived in the market, compared with 5,000 bags on Friday, said Shiva Kumar, a Davanagere-based trader.
* The new crop of maize has also started hitting the Nizamabad market in Telangana, however, prices were steady. Today, arrivals in Nizamabad were around 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) compared with 3,000 bags on Friday.
* Most spot markets were shut on Saturday on account of Gandhi Jayanti.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
