Wheat procurement in Punjab in the 2024-25 rabi marketing season fell short of the government's target this year due to an increase in competition from private buyers. Procurement in the state, which ended on Friday, was at 12.5 mln tn while the government's target was 13 mln tn, a Food Corp of India official told Informist. However, on a year-on-year basis, purchases in the state rose 3%, mainly because of higher arrivals and competitive minimum support prices.
