NEW DELHI – Eicher Motors Ltd. sold 7,167 commercial vehicles to dealerships in August, up 9.5% on year, through its joint venture VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., it said in an exchange filing Monday. This was driven by a double-digit increase in truck sales domestically, data showed.

The joint venture shipped 6,924 Eicher Motors-branded trucks and buses to dealers last month, up just over 10% on year. This data is inclusive of electric vehicle sales. In India, its sales grew 5% to 6,331 units.

Wholesale sales of small commercial vehicles and light-medium duty trucks weighing less than 18.5 tonnes grew nearly 11% to 3,585 units in August. These variants form more than half of the company's sales in India. Heavy-duty trucks of over 18.5 tonnes reported a growth of nearly 8% in wholesale sales to 1,734 units last month. Conversely, sales of light-medium duty buses in India fell nearly 11% to 896 units. Domestic sales of heavy-duty buses fell 32% to 116 units.

The company sold 593 VE Commercial Vehicle-branded units abroad last month, more than double the 255 units sold in August last year. Eicher Motors sold 243 Volvo trucks and buses in August, down nearly 7% on year.

In Apr-Aug, the company sold 35,892 commercial vehicles, up 9.2% on year. In the same period, domestic sales grew nearly 8% on year to 32,478 units.

For the June quarter, it reported a consolidated net profit of 12.05 billion on revenues of INR 50.42 billion. At 1337 IST, shares of the company traded 1.8% higher at INR 6,213.50 on the National Stock Exchange. End
