MUMBAI – Coal India Ltd. Thursday reported a 5.2% on-year decline in its sales to 64.9 million tonnes in December and the production of the company for the same period rose 4.6% on year to 75.7 million tonnes, according to the provisional data released by the company. For Apr-Dec, the company's offtake fell 2.2% on year to 544.7 million tonnes and the production was down 2.6% on year at 529.2 million tonnes. 

 

The company's subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. reported the highest provisional coal production numbers for the month at 21.9 million tonnes, up 1.8% on year. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. was the second highest contributer to Coal India's overall production and reported a 28.2% on-year growth at 18.4 million tonnes for December. 

 

Mahanadi Coalfields was the front-runner in terms of sales among Coal India's subsidiaries, reporting an offtake of 17.9 million tonnes in December, but the sales were down nearly 9% on year. South Eastern Coalfields reported the second-highest sales figures with a 4.3% on-year rise at 16.4 million tonnes. 

 

Coal India reported a consolidated net profit of INR 43.54 billion for the quarter ended September on a revenue of INR 301.87 billion. On Thursday, shares of the company closed at INR 400.45, up 0.4%, on the National Stock Exchange.  End
