US President Donald Trump has named Sergio Gor, who he called a "great friend", as the next US ambassador to India. Gor will succeed Eric Garcetti, whose tenure as the 26th US ambassador to India ended in January, at a time when relations between the two countries have worsened over the Washington imposing large tariffs on New Delhi.
