MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India plans to simplify the process of reconciliation in Export Data Processing and Monitoring System and Import Data Processing and Monitoring System, Governor Sanjay Malhotra said Wednesday while detailing the outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee meeting. As per the revised guidelines, bills can be reconciled and closed by a bank, based on a declaration by the exporter or importer concerned, for entries of value equivalent to INR 1.0 million per bill or less, the central bank said.

"This measure is expected to reduce compliance burden on small-value exporters and importers and enhance ease of doing business," the RBI said. The revised procedure will also enable reduction in the realisable value of bills by banks based on such declaration. The directions will be issued shortly, RBI said.

In a unanimous decision, the Monetary Policy Committee left the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.50% and retained its "neutral" stance.  End
