NEW DELHI – The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation will credit INR-1.44-trillion interest for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) to 340 million member accounts by Jul. 15, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said Wednesday. These funds will be processed automatically as annual interest credit at 8.25% rate with the help of the centralised information technology-enabled services under the EPFO 2.01 CITES project, the minister said.

The project, under which a new website will be rolled out soon, will expedite the interest credit into members' accounts, the minister said. Earlier, the interest amount was credited until Oct–Nov after the Employees' Provident Fund interest rate was declared. Of these 340 million beneficiary accounts, there are around 90 million active accounts currently, the minister said while briefing the media.

The minister said, under the new system, the limit for automated settlement for advance claims has now been raised to INR 500,000 from INR 100,000 earlier. These claims will be processed on accounts which are fully know-your-customer linked and validated through an auto-settlement mechanism, Mandaviya added.

The Centralised IT Enabled Services, or CITES, project will help in upgrading the organisation's service delivery through automation and rule-based processing. Among the various features, the new portal will allow members to withdraw up to 75% of their total provident fund balance, the minister said. Even the categories under partial withdrawal rules have been simplified and brought down to three--essential needs, housing needs and special circumstances, he added.

On being asked about the availability of the existing data, the minister said the organisation has migrated its entire database of member records from the old website to the new centralised database.  End
