MUMBAI – IDBI Bank Ltd. posted tepid on-year growth in net profit for the June quarter, supported by a sharp rise in reversal of provisions. A marginal on-year rise in the lender's total income also supported the bottom line. However, a rise in its total expenditure and fall in net interest margin limited the net profit growth.
IDBI Bank posted a net profit of INR 21.15 billion for the June quarter, up 5% on year and nearly 9% on quarter. Its total income rose to INR 85.73 billion, up over 1% on year but down nearly 9% on quarter. The net interest income rose 10% on year to INR 34.86 billion. The lender's net interest margin declined to 3.61% from 4.15% a quarter ago.
The bank reversed provisions of INR 6.37 billion, more than three times the provisions reversed a year ago. In the June quarter of 2025, the bank had reversed provisions amounting to INR 1.79 billion. Of the provisions reversed in the reporting quarter, those for non-performing assets amounted to INR 5.22 billion, up over 35% from the year-ago period.
The lender's asset quality showed only partial improvement as the net non-performing asset ratio rose to 0.16% from 0.15% a quarter ago while the gross non-performing asset ratio declined to 2.30% from 2.32% in the March quarter. IDBI Bank's Basel-III capital adequacy ratio stood at 26.92% as on Jun. 30, up from 26.65% as on Mar. 31. Its provision coverage ratio was 99.31% as on Jun. 30, down slightly from 99.39% as on Mar. 31.
Total deposits rose 10% on year to INR 3.26 trillion and net advances rose 22% on year to INR 2.59 trillion. The private-sector bank's current account savings account deposits rose 7% on year to INR 1.42 trillion as on Jun. 30. The credit deposit ratio stood at 79.50%, up from 73.06% in the March quarter.
The cost of deposits declined 1 basis point on quarter in the June quarter to 4.59%. The cost of funds saw a decline of 3 bps to 4.68%. The cost to net income ratio rose to 52.02% from 44.28% a quarter ago.
Friday, shares of IDBI Bank ended at INR 87.02 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up nearly 2% from Thursday. End
