MUMBAI/NEW DELHI – YES Bank is seeing strong growth in foreign currency non-resident bank deposits, the management said in a post-earnings briefing Saturday. Even though it did not disclose the FCNR(B) deposits received by the bank so far, it said the segment is gaining traction and the bank is quite ahead of its peers in receiving these deposits.
"There is a very strong demand that we see (for FCNR(B) deposits), and this comes from two aspects," the management said. "One is the aspect of the pure deposits that come in, and second is the aspect of leverage." The private lender has raised interest rates on FCNR dollar-denominated bank deposits for three-year to below four-year tenors by 250 basis points to 6.5% and on deposits for four to five years by 280 bps to 6.55%. The bank had revised the rates after the Reserve Bank of India announced a concessional dollar-rupee swap facility for fresh FCNR(B) deposits.
The management sees its credit and deposits growing in line with the industry in 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). The bank's advances grew over 18%, an over seven-year high, to INR 2.85 trillion, while deposits grew over 14% on year to INR 3.15 trillion in the June quarter.
The bank aims to focus on improving its profitability and growing advantages and deposits in a profitable and calibrated way, the management said in the conference call. "...deposit growth will be an important constituency, and we will make sure that we are not accelerating on advances in the absence of a deposit," the management said.
The private sector lender reported 34% on-year growth in its net profit for the June quarter at INR 10.71 billion. Its net interest income rose 18% on year to INR 27.86 in the June quarter. The bank's total income for the quarter was INR 98.42 billion, up from INR 93.48 billion in the year-ago quarter.
On fundraising plans, the management said the bank has enough capital as of now and will deicide on this as and when required. The bank recently informed exchanged that CareEdge Ratings has upgraded the rating on the bank's infrastructure bonds and tier-II bonds to 'AA+' from 'AA-'. The infrastructure and tier-II bonds upgraded by the ratings agency were worth INR 46.70 billion and INR 89.00 billion, respectively. On Friday, shares of the bank ended 0.6% lower at INR 23.61 on the National Stock Exchange.
The bank's disbursements in the June quarter grew only 3% sequentially to INR 339.45 billion, and were up almost 30% on year. The low growth in disbursements on a quarterly basis was due to weak seasonal factors, the management said. It said there was no adjustment in the financial statement from the bank's ongoing court case on its additional tire–I bonds. The had bank faced rising non-performing assets and governance issues in late 2010. End
