NEW DELHI – The Directorate General of Foreign Trade on Wednesday eased export rules for small-value shipments, removing the need for a registration-cum-membership certificate or certificate of registration for export consignments worth up to INR 300,000, the commerce ministry said in a press release. "The measure is aimed at reducing the compliance burden for new and small exporters and facilitating exports through Postal, Courier and other emerging channels," it said.
By removing the requirement, the measure provides micro, small and medium enterprises, artisans, small businesses and first-time exporters with a simpler entry point into international markets with lower initial complicance requirements, it said. "The exemption will also facilitate e-commerce and other emerging export channels. It is expected to support low-value exports through Postal, Courier and other emerging channels that are increasingly enabling businesses to reach international customers," it said.
Exporters are generally required to obtain a registration-cum-membership certificate or certificate of registration from the relevant export promotion council or commodity board, wherever applicable under the foreign trade policy. "For new or occasional exporters undertaking small-value consignments, this involves an additional compliance step, including identifying the appropriate registering body, submitting the prescribed documents and completing the registration process before undertaking exports," the ministry said.
Export consignments exceeding INR 300,000 will continue to require a valid registration-cum-membership certificate or certificate of registration, wherever applicable, it said. End
