--IT secy: India among important countries of future for semiconductors

NEW DELHI – India appears to have "truly arrived" in the semiconductor space and makes for an important destination in the future, not only for semiconductor design but also manufacturing, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan said in a keynote address at SEMICON India 2026. "It's something which is very important and relevant to the people of this country that we are in a position to manufacture these products for ourselves in order to make sure that...while we are an important market, we also have the necessary strategic autonomy," he said.

Krishnan highlighted that diversification of the global value chains and building resilience is today as much an objective of countries as is securing products at competitive prices. "...globally, in terms of geopolitics, we now understand the risks that are inherent in becoming overly concentrated in any one geography in terms of manufacture of vital products," he explained.

According to Krishnan, it is important that India becomes a key player in the global supply chain for semiconductors. "That diversification is important not just for India, I acknowledge it's important for India, but it's equally important for the world," he said.  End
