MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. late Friday announced the launch of Swift, Dzire, and Baleno models with automatic transmission and compressed natural gas-compliant powertrains, as it seeks to tap into burgeoning demand for the greener fuel in affordable models. "We have been receiving unprecedented demand for our S-CNG range of vehicles as evolving, environmentally conscious customer expectations are driving acceptance for eco-friendly options across all segments," the company's senior executive officer for marketing and sales, Partho Banerjee, said in an exchange filing.
S-CNG, or smart CNG, is Maruti Suzuki's proprietary, factory-fitted CNG technology. Maruti Suzuki recorded a 58% on year increase in sales of its CNG cars in the June quarter. "In July, we recorded the highest-ever S-CNG vehicle sales in a month at 83,000 units. The introduction of the new automatic S-CNG range of cars is sure to contribute to the growing share of clean and green cars in India," Banerjee said.
Maruti Suzuki calls this a 'revolutionary automobile transmission' at an affordable price. This variant of Maruti Suzuki Swift will be priced starting at INR 792,400 ex-showroom. Prices for the Dzire sedan start at INR 853,100, and the Baleno starts at INR 832,400.
The carmaker reported a net profit of INR 33.52 billion on revenue of INR 524.56 billion for the June quarter. Friday, the company's shares ended 1.9% lower at INR 12,103 on the National Stock Exchange. End
