NEW DELHI – The Delhi unit of the Congress and its youth wing Indian Youth Congress Friday said they will hold separate demonstrations outside the Election Commission office in Delhi, to press for their demand seeking resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Indian Youth Congress, led by National President Uday Bhanu Chib, will start its march at 1300 IST from Raisina Road towards Jantar Mantar.
Also, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee workers, headed by President Devender Yadav along with All India Congress Committee Delhi Incharge Qazi Nizamuddin, will assemble at the state wing office and march towards Nirvachan Sadan, the office of the Election Commission of India, to stage a demonstration at 1430 IST.
This comes after an investigative report by the Indian Express newspaper claimed that many decisions pertaining to the special intensive revision of electoral rolls across the country were taken without the knowledge of two of the three election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, who also formally recorded their objections at least 14 times over the past 10 months.
Thursday, senior Congress leader and leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, at a press conference had said Kumar must resign immediately. He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will be investigated for election fraud. He also suggested that Kumar turn approver in connection with the election misdeeds. End
