NEW DELHI – Temperatures in Delhi are likely to rise this week, with a maximum of 35 degree Celsius by the weekend. The national capital recorded pleasant weather, particularly over the weekend, due to clouds formed under the influence of a low-pressure area and a western disturbance. On Sunday, the minimum temperature dropped to 21 degrees Celsius, the lowest for September in 18 years, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said.

However, temperatures in Delhi are expected to rise this week as clouds wither away, with the circulation over Uttar Pradesh breaking up and the western disturbance clearing the mountains by Wednesday. "The wind pattern will become steady," Skymet said. The lower-level winds will turn strong northwesterly from Tuesday, a typical post-monsoon feature.

The southwest monsoon retreated from Delhi on Sept. 23, earlier than its normal withdrawal date of Sept. 25. "No significant weather system is expected over North India through the week," Skymet said. The seasonal anticyclone will strengthen over Rajasthan and its adjoining areas, facilitating clear skies, moderate winds, and a slight nip in the air, it added.  End
