MUMBAI – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. Saturday reported a sharp growth in the wholesale volumes of its UK-based subsidiary Jaguar-Land Rover during the September quarter, even as the retail sales contracted during the period.
During Jul-Sept, the subsidiary recorded a near-25% growth in its sales volumes to 82,400 units against 66,125 units recorded in the year-ago period. The improvement in wholesale volumes reflects the recovery from the cyber incident the company faced in the year-ago period, according to the company's press release.
Retails sales of JLR over the September quarter contracted more than 7% to 79,000 units against the 85,731 units recorded in the year-ago period. Retail volumes in China were hit by the cessation of vehicles locally produced by the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture in June, according to the release. However, the company noted that growth in the UK and overseas markets helped offset challenges in the Chinese and West Asian markets.
For the September quarter, JLR reported a 70% on-year surge in its UK wholesale volumes to 21,000 units, and a near-31% growth in its retail sales to 18,500. Wholesale volumes for China declined a sharp 46% on year to 6,100 units, while retail sales tumbled 41% to 6,300 units.
On Thursday, shares of Tata Motors PV closed at INR 279.40, down 1.5%, on the National Stock Exchnage. Friday, the domestic equity market was closed on account of Gandhi Jayanti. For the June quarter, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 7.75 billion on revenues of INR 957.99 billion. End
