MUMBAI – Conditions are likely to become favourable for the withdrawal of the monsoon from more parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in the next two to three days, the India Meteotological Department said. The monsoon could also retreat from some parts of Telangana and north interior Karnataka in the next two to three days, it said. Currently, the line of withdrawal remains in the same position as on Saturday, passing through Supaul in Bihar, Ranchi in Jharkhand, Raipur in Chhattisgarh, and Brahmapuri, Parbhani, Baramati, and Harnai in Maharashtra.
A western disturbance acting as a trough lies to the northwest of the country, while an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Uttarakhand and adjoining Himachal Pradesh, the weather bureau said. A trough runs from southwest Uttar Pradesh to northwest Bay of Bengal. The presence of these weather systems is likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday and Friday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in multiple parts of northwest India till Saturday, the bureau said.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over south Jharkhand and the trough running from Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal, heavy showers are likely over parts of Gangetic West Bengal till Thursday, the weather department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are forecast in several parts of east and northeast India till Friday, and a wet spell is expected to continue over many parts of both regions till Sunday, the department said.
The presence of a trough running from the Gulf of Mannar to north interior Karnataka is expected to trigger heavy rainfall over parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry from Thursday to Saturday, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are seen in most parts of south peninsular India till Sunday, and light to moderate showers are likely over the same areas till Tuesday, the bureau said. Strong surface winds are expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh till Friday.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lying over southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh is likely to cause thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in parts of Chhattisgarh till Thursday, while only thunderstorms and lightning are expected in parts of east Madhya Pradesh during the same period.
No major weather activities are likely over west India, the weather department said. End
