MUMBAI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India Wednesday increased the maximum number of privately-placed debt securities from a single issuer that can mature in a given financial year to 17. The earlier limit was 14.

Each debt securities issue is allotted a unique International Securities Identification Number. SEBI's circular refers to the change as a change in the number of ISINs for debt securities that are issued on a private placement basis.

According to the circular, effective immediately, an issuer of privately-placed debt securities can have a maximum of 17 ISINs maturing in a given financial year. The regulator said the change is aimed at easing the situation for borrowers who face challenges in asset liability management. It will ease fund raising for them as they can have three additional ISINs maturing in a financial year.  End
